Why We Need a New Roof

After 23 years of faithful service, our church roof has reached the end of its life. Four critical structural failures are causing widespread water damage throughout our building:

  • Shingle deterioration resulting in exposed nail holes that allow water penetration

  • Failed flashing systems at critical junctions throughout the roof

  • Rotted roof decking that has created soft spots and poses safety concerns

  • Extensive EIFS (Exterior Insulation and Finishing System) damage in multiple locations around the building, allowing water to infiltrate behind the walls and requiring comprehensive repair

As a result, we have ongoing, active water leaks throughout the building—in the foyer, both nurseries, staff offices, video room, choir and singles rooms, janitor closet, gymnasium, and auditorium. Our longtime roofing contractor has confirmed that repairs are no longer effective. The roof has reached the end of its serviceable life and must be completely replaced to prevent further damage to our church building.

Our Decision-Making Process

The Committee

A committee was formed to thoroughly research this decision and bring a recommendation to the church: Jon Roque, Rex Fulk, Oscar Roque, Frank Henry, Rich Weis, Cory Sullenberger, Nate Roque, Joel Roth, Jamie Twardzik, and Ron Rains.

Our Guiding Principles

Throughout this process, we have been guided by four key principles:

  • Faithful Stewardship – We recognize our responsibility to wisely manage the resources God's people have entrusted to the church. Rather than choosing the cheapest option, we have sought the best long-term value that will serve the church well for decades to come.

  • Quality and Longevity – We prioritized durable materials and proven workmanship that will minimize future maintenance costs and provide reliable protection for many years.

  • Thorough Research – We conducted extensive research, obtained multiple contractor proposals, consulted with an independent third-party roofing expert, and carefully evaluated all options before making our recommendation.

  • Proven Reputation – We selected a contractor with an established track record of quality work and reliable service, valuing excellence and integrity over cost savings.

The Solution: Complete Roof Replacement

Scope of Work

The project will include:

  • Complete removal and replacement of all roofing materials

  • Replacement of all damaged and rotted roof decking

  • Installation of new flashing systems at all roof transitions and penetrations

  • Comprehensive repair of the EIFS (Exterior Insulation and Finishing System)

Selected Contractor: Roofing Services Plus (Roof) & Saylor’s (EIFS)

Projected Timeline: End of April

The Financial Investment

Project Cost

Total Investment: $360,000

  • Roof replacement: $254,000

  • EIFS repair: $103,000

  • Independent third-party roofing inspector for quality assurance: $3,000

Understanding the Scale

To help put this investment in perspective:

  • The average residential home has approximately 1,700 square feet of roof and costs around $9,000–$15,000 to replace

  • Our church building has 42,000 square feet of roof area—25 times larger than a typical home

Using the same cost per square foot, a roof of our size could be expected to cost between $225,000 and $375,000.
